Federal Prison - A Comprehensive Survival Guide
|
Why I wrote this guide and who should read it.
In
late 2006, after a year of constant stress and and dread, I left federal
sentencing court with what had to be considered a very good result under the
circumstances; six months in federal prison for submitting fraudulent federal
loan applications to help pay for school and start a business. As my lawyer
accompanied me to the courthouse exit, she turned and said, “It’s been a
pleasure representing you. Please do keep in touch.” And with that, she walked
away.
I stood there on the steps of the courthouse and I realized that while with the
help of my lawyer I had survived the legal proceedings phase of my case, I was
now utterly alone and completely unprepared for the penalty phase. I had no idea
what to expect or how to prepare for my impending stay in federal prison.

My mind was flooded with countless questions.
• What will the other inmates think of me?
• Will I be assaulted?
• Will I be extorted?
• Will I be strip searched?
• Will I be given a body cavity search?
• What will a normal day be like?
• How will I pass the time?
• Can I exercise?
• What will I eat?
• Will I be locked in a cell?
• What will the sleeping arrangements be like?
• Will I have to shower in front of other men?
• Will I have to go to the bathroom in front of other men?
• Can I bring anything with me?
• Where will I be sent to prison?
• What about my medications?
• Will I be locked up with murderers and rapists?
• What if I get sick?
• Will everyone know the details of my crime?
• What will happen to my business?
• How soon and how often can I have visitors?
• What will the prison look like?
• Who will I eat with in the chow hall?
• What about gangs?
• Will I need money in prison? How much?
• Will I be forced to work? What kind of job will I get?
• Can I use the bathroom at any time day or night?
I immediately turned to the Internet and came across a number of websites
offering publications with titles like “How to Survive Jail” and “A Guide to
Prison”. I purchased all of these books and read them front to back. After a few
months in prison, I came to realize that all of these books, while certainly
offering some good information, had been severely flawed.
There were three major flaws
with all the prison books and guides I read:
Firstly, they attempted to cater to everyone.
The fact is that the different security level prisons are vastly different on
all levels; inmate and staff attitudes, rules—spoken and unspoken, sleeping and
living arrangements, level of bureaucracy and much, much more. Any general guide
then that attempts to address all prisons is bound to omit important specifics
and provide erroneous information that is simply irrelevant at best and
dangerous at worst.
Secondly, they were written nearly exclusively by former inmates at Federal
Prison Camps (FPCs).
While a FPC is indeed a federal prison, it houses only non-violent offenders
with less than ten years to go on their sentence—think corrupt politicians,
crooked lawyers and accountants and small time drug dealers. Without even a
fence to prevent escape, FPC’s are so different from all the other prisons in
the federal system that most non FPC inmates don’t even view them as “real”
prisons. It goes without saying then that many of these guides written by former
FPC inmates do not effectively address the numerous problems and obstacles that
an inmate in a higher security federal prison is faced with.
Thirdly, they were very poorly organized and often vague on some of the points
that I was most concerned about.
I had been through a year of hell. I had watched for months as government
prosecutors worked to lock me up for as long as possible. Now that I was waiting
to report to prison, the last thing I needed was to find that most of the books
I was relying on to educate myself on the next chapter in my life were
haphazardly organized and failed to properly address a number of issues that
worried me most.
What makes this guide different and what this means for you.
I did my time in a Federal Medical Center (FMC), which is government public
relations talk for one prison housing inmates of ALL security levels adjoined by
a small clinic, staffed by a few doctors and nurses. While I was a white collar
offender with a very light sentence, I spent my time surrounded by and learning
from inmates who had been sentenced to multi decade or life sentences and who
had seen just about every security level prison in the federal system. This
allows me to share a unique insight on the federal prison system that the vast
majority of inmates simply can not provide.
After realizing the major flaws in the information then available, I decided to
write a well organized no nonsense guide of my own that addresses a specific
segment of the federal inmate population. Prison is a different world and no one
should enter that world without being well versed in the laws of the land.
While incarcerated, over many months I educated myself on the Bureau of Prisons
(BOP) and prison life as much as I could. I kept my eyes and ears open. I asked
a lot of questions. I read daily. I observed inmate and staff interactions. And
I committed my observations and findings to writing. This information has now
been compiled into a clear, straightforward, and candid guide. It is my sincere
belief that this guide will be of enormous assistance to the individual who has
been or expects to be sentenced to serve time in a:
• Federal Prison Camp (FPC)
• Low or medium security Federal Correctional Institution (FCI)
• Federal Medical Center (FMC)
It will also be useful to anyone who will be spending time at a Federal
Detention Center (FDC), a Federal Correctional Complex (FCC), a Federal Transfer
Center (FTC), a Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) or a Metropolitan
Detention Center (MDC).
If you are headed to county jail or state prison or if you are headed to a high
or maximum security federal prison, while this guide will have some relevant
information, it has not been written for you and it would be irresponsible for
me to claim otherwise.

Click

just $87 and receive immediate access.
Before you start thinking that $87 is
too much to spend, I want you to first carefully consider the far greater cost
of walking into Federal Prison unprepared and unequipped to deal with the
challenges that will confront you from day one. How much is your peace of mind,
physical safety and mental wellbeing worth?
Your life now- before your sentence or surrender, and your life as a federal
prison inmate can be made far more comfortable if you so choose. As I stated
earlier, unless your lawyer was previously incarcerated, he or she is not
qualified to give you more than the most trivial advice on your impending stay
in prison. I have stood in your shoes. The information I have compiled over
the past two years will be of enormous assistance to you.
If you are happy to wing it or rely on the advice of internet
forums and outdated ‘unauthorized’ manuals and the such, that is of course your
prerogative and in all sincerity I wish you the best of luck. However, if you
wish to completely prepare yourself, then this guide will show you everything
you need to know.
For a limited time, with each order of Federal Prison- A
Comprehensive Survival Guide I am including two invaluable bonus eBooks that
will greatly assist you on the inside. Together the two books normally sell for
over $40. Until May 1st 2008, the two bonus eBooks will be included free with
all orders. Please note that while access to Federal Prison- A Comprehensive

BONUS #1
Self
Defense Combat!- How to Win Any Fight in Under Minutes!
The Internet’s Number One Best Selling Self Defense Manual
I can not emphasize enough how much I discourage you getting involved in fights
while in prison. Firstly, any physical altercation with another inmate will
almost certainly land you in the hole for weeks if not months. Secondly, you
will immediately be on the radar of the prison officials and be labeled a
trouble maker. You don’t want this extra attention. Thirdly, you will likely
lose Good Time Credit. And finally, you may end up facing additional charges for
assault, attempted murder or god forbid, murder.
Having said this, the reality is that you are going to be
around people who have a propensity for violence that is greater than the
average person. And you need to know how to defend yourself should your life be
in danger and you have no alternative but to fight back. Importantly, even if
you never utilize the techniques outlined in this book, just knowing that you
are capable of defending yourself will put you more at ease and increase your
level of confidence. Self Defense Combat! shows you how to successfully defend
yourself in real world situations. Therefore, please note that it will not be
permitted inside the prison as it is considered a threat to the institution’s
security. Please study and learn before you begin your sentence.
BONUS #2
Thug Mentality Exposed eBook
Thug Mentality Exposed takes the reader on a raw and bold
journey into the heart of the thug world through the eyes and experiences of a
correctional counselor and photojournalist. I have included this book especially
for those who have been convicted of white collar or minor drug related
offences.
While there are of course a number of different prison
security levels, this does not mean that lower security institutions are only
home to crooked accountants and pot dealing hippies. In addition to housing
white collar and minor drug offenders, minimum, low and medium security prisons
are home to armed robbers, rapists, attempted murderers and even convicted
murderers (usually those who have been in the system a long time and have worked
their way down from a Federal Penitentiary). Most (but not all) of the inmates
involved in violent crime come from an entirely different background than the
average white collar or small time drug offender and as such they of course
enter prison with a very different mentality. This book will help you to better
understand that mentality and help you to effectively interact with fellow
inmates who come from this background.
If you are not yet ready to order, you are welcome to view a FREE sample

will be available soon.
Let’s face it; going to prison is not easy. You are losing control over your
life. There are a million unknowns and a million things to worry about. But with
the right information, your current stress and anxiety will be greatly reduced
and the transition to your new life will be made as comfortable as is possible.
I know how difficult this time is. For what little comfort it may offer, I
can tell you that this too shall pass. I wish you the very best in your journey.
Warm Regards,

Jonathan Richards
